Longbridge – Birmingham

During 2008, David Williams was involved in proposals for the redevelopment of the former Longbridge MG car plant in Birmingham for St Modwen Developments and Advantage West Midlands. The Longbridge redevelopment was the largest regeneration project in the West Midlands creating a sustainable community of up to 10,000 new jobs, 2,000 homes, new town centre, transport networks and new public realm areas and the realignment of River Rea.

David was responsible for the landscape and visual impact assessment of the development proposals on the Longbridge North and West sites and Longbridge East site, providing input to landscape strategy for the overall development and the preparation of the Landscape and Visual chapters of the Environmental Statements that accompanied the three planning applications relating to the overall site.
The impact assessment work was based on the initial ‘Built Form and Rural Visual Landscape Appraisal Report’ prepared as part of the evidence base for the Longbridge ‘Area Action Plan’ process being formulated by Birmingham City Council, Bromsgrove District Council and Worcester County Council. The work also required a close working relationship with other consultants including ecologists and cultural heritage specialists.
